Molecular Distillation

Introduction
Short path (molecular) distillation is a special liquid-liquid separation technology, which is different from the traditional distillation by boiling point difference separation principle, but by different substances molecular movement of the average free path difference to achieve separation. Molecular distillation is applied for separation of high boiling point, heat-sensitive and readily oxidizable materials. The material is transferred from the feeding tank to the main evaporator, and the jacket is continuously heated. The film scraper scrapes the material liquid into an extremely thin, turbulent liquid film, and pushes it downward in a spiral shape. The condenser built into the main evaporator provides a short path for the vapor molecules to move from the heating surface to the condensing surface. During the descent process, the lighter components (low boiling point, smaller molecular weight) in the feed liquid begin to vaporize, move to the internal condensation surface and liquefy, then flow into the light component receiving bottle along the condensation surface. The heavier components (higher boiling point and larger molecular weight) in the feed liquid cannot reach the condensation surface and will flow into the heavy component receiving bottle along the heating surface.
Features:
1. Low operating temperature, high vacuum degree (≤1Pa), short heating time (15-20s), good separation effect, etc., especially suitable for separation of high boiling point, heat-sensitive, and difficult-to-oxidize substances;
2. It can effectively remove light molecular substances (deodorization), heavy molecular substances (decolorization) and remove impurities in mixtures;
3. The separation process is a physical separation process, which can well protect the separated substances from contamination, especially maintaining the original quality of natural extracts;
4. The degree of separation is higher than that of traditional distillation and ordinary thin film evaporators;
